SAN MARCOS, Texas – Following a record-setting performance, Texas State senior quarterback Tyler Jones has been named the College Sports Madness Offensive Player of the Week and was The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Honorable Mention National Player of the Week for the first week of the 2016 college football season.
Jones set a school record with 40 completions and tied another school record with 418 passing yards to lead Texas State to a 56-54 overtime victory at Ohio.
He completed 40 of 55 and threw four touchdown passes, had a two-yard TD run that put Texas State ahead 14-6 at halftime, and caught a 22-yard TD pass before throwing a game-deciding shovel pass for the winning two-point conversion.
