SAN MARCOS, Texas – On Tuesday, Texas State announced committee members for the Dr. Johnny E. Brown Committee On Racial Equality (CORE). This committee is charged with developing actionable recommendations to foster an inclusive culture in Texas State Athletics.
Dr. Johnny E. Brown became the first black student-athlete at Southwest Texas State in 1966. He attended SWT from 1966-70 and played basketball through the 1969 season. He later graduated from the University of Texas with his Ph.D in 1991.
The committee will explore initiatives to strengthen education and development opportunities, promote voter registration and voting, and engage with the community regarding policing and relations.
