Texas State saw the benefits of having pitching depth during Saturday’s doubleheader.
Junior transfer Paige Williams got her first start of the season against DePaul and it began about as bad as it could have. Williams surrendered a lead-off, solo home run to Morgan Maize to put Texas State down early.
After shaking off her initial jitters during relief duty last Friday afternoon against Abilene Christian, the junior rebounded and continued to attack the strike zone as head coach Ricci Woodard instructed her.
Williams pitched 5 1/3 innings before being relieved by sophomore Randi Rupp in the top half of the sixth and notched her first Division I win when the Bobcats rallied late for a 4-3 triumph.
