College Football: Georgia Southern placed on two-year probation, sees reduction in scholarships

Georgia Southern has been placed on probation for two years and will see a reduction in two football scholarships for the 2016-2017 academic year, the NCAA Committee on Infractions announced Thursday.

The program also received a 10 percent reduction in both official visits and football evaluations for the same year and a self-imposed fine of $5,000 or one percent of the athletic budget. Lastly, the Eagles’ football team will be forced to vacate any victories in which the academically ineligible players competed.

These sanctions stem from two incidents, involving three football players and two university officials in a two-year span.
