Yerry Rodriguez fans 12 for Hickory

Yerry Rodriguez, the 21 year old righthanded starting pitcher for the Texas Rangers, has been lights-out for low-A Hickory this season, and tonight had his best outing of the season. Pitching in the second inning of a doubleheader, Rodriguez went 5 innings and fanned 12 of the 20 batters he faced, walking 4 and allowing 1 hit. That lowers his ERA on the year to 1.38, and gives him 36 Ks in 26 IP, against 8 walks. Rodriguez burst on the scene last year when he had some terrific numbers splitting the year between the AZL and Spokane, and while he hasn’t been quite has stingy with the walks this year as last — Rodriguez walked 8 batters all of last year in 63 innings — his overall performance is as good, if not better.
