Will Jeff Banister be at the center of the Rangers' rebuild for years to come?

ARLINGTON -- For the first time in four seasons with the Rangers, Jeff Banister is in a spot that no manager really wants.

Banister is the point man for a rebuilding team.

The Rangers signaled that by trading away their No. 1 starter (Cole Hamels), their closer (Keone Kela) and two effective relievers (Jesse Chavez and Jake Diekman) in the last two weeks. It is all about the future.

That means success will be measured by the growth of players rather than the conventional won-loss record. The Rangers can improve and still pile up losses during the duration of this season.
