Two months after his tailspin, Yohander Mendez seems back in control of his life. Next up: another shot at Rangers rotation

FRISCO - He was going back to Venezuela.

The unemployment rate is over 30 percent. The currency was just devalued again - it now takes about 5 million Bolivars to equal a U.S. dollar. The country is in chaos. At that moment, though, as the Rangers told Yohander Mendez that he had lost the rotation spot just given to him and that he was being sent back to the minors, going home, as desperate as it may be, seemed more appealing than working his way back.

“I was embarrassed, but I was also mad,” Mendez says. “I didn’t want to play baseball.
