PEORIA, Ariz. - Carlos Tocci has more home runs than Joey Gallo.
Now, there’s a sentence you didn’t expect to see midway through spring training.
It says more about the development of Tocci than anything else. He added about 10 pounds during the winter and got in an extra 140 at-bats while playing in Venezuela. Among players who had appeared in more than one game this spring, his 1.310 OPS led the team.
This from a guy who didn’t homer as a Rule 5 player last year and who had exactly one extra-base hit entering September.
