The Rangers are loaded with left-handed hitters. Last year they struggled. But there is new hope for the young sluggers

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- It's not a particularly good time in baseball history to be a left-handed hitter.

Teams are shifting more than ever. No longer are left-handed pitchers merely junkball-throwing, finesse guys. Specialization creates more lefty-lefty matchups, which puts the left-handed hitter at a decided disadvantage.

Speaking of, is this a bad time to remind you The Rangers are LOADED with left-handed hitters?

"It presents some challenges," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels allowed. "It makes us a little easier to match up against."

The Rangers figure to have at least five left-handed regulars, maybe six depending on Willie Calhoun.
