Texas Rangers sign 4th rounder Cody Freeman, per report

Texas Rangers 2019 MLB Draft 4th round pick Cody Freeman has signed with the Rangers, per Jim Callis on Twitter. Callis says Freeman receives $900,000, significantly more than the $502,300 slot that was associated with that pick. Texas signed several players already to below-slot deals, which would allow them to go above-slot for Freeman.

Freeman is a 5’10”, 165 lb. righthanded hitting shortstop from Rancho Cucamonga, California. A high schooler, Freeman was ranked #146 on the Baseball America top 500 rankings, and was committed to Baylor. He gets praise for his instincts, speed and advanced approach at the plate.
