Texas Rangers draft Justin Foscue

With their first round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft, the Texas Rangers have selected Mississippi State infielder Justin Foscue. This was the #14 pick overall in the draft.

Foscue, a 6’, 200 lb. righthanded hitter who has played second base and third base, moved up boards in the lead up to the draft. He’s a bat-first guy who didn’t hit as a freshman, but who slashed .331/.395/.564 as a sophomore and had a .321/.464/.509 slash line before the 2020 season was suspended.

Selecting Foscue seems to underscore the Rangers’ decision to get away from the toolsy, raw, high-upside players they have prioritized in the past.
