The Texas Rangers have called up relief pitcher Dennis Santana from AAA Round Rock. To make room for Santana on the active roster, the Rangers have optioned pitcher Wes Benjamin to AAA Round Rock. In addition, the Rangers announced that pitcher Shaun Anderson has been claimed on waivers by the Baltimore Orioles.
Santana was acquired by the Rangers from the Los Angeles Dodgers a couple of weeks ago for Kelvin Bautista. The 25 year old righthander throws hard but has a history of control problems which have kept him from establishing himself in the majors. He will presumably get a look in a middle or late game relief role now.
