Ryan Zimmerman, Joe Ross opt out of 2020 season

Washington Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman and pitcher Joe Ross have announced they are exercising their right to forego participating in the 2020 MLB season.

Zimmerman, who turns 36 in September, was expected to have a bench role after signing a 1 year, $2 million deal this offseason. The former #4 overall pick was one of the best third basemen in baseball for several years, but injuries have limited him, and it was thought that this might be his last year. Having finally gotten a ring in 2019, and looking at a part-time role if he could stay healthy, it’s very understandable why he would pass on playing.
