Reports: Texas Rangers extend closer Jose Leclerc’s contract

Per reports, the Texas Rangers have extended Jose Leclerc’s contract. The 25-year-old had a phenomenal 2018 season, posting a 1.56 ERA, a sub-1.00 WHIP, and 13.3 strikeouts per nine innings. He stepped in as the Texas closer once Keone Kela was traded and immediately established himself as the closer of the future.

Rangers insider Evan Grant laid out the details of the extension on Twitter:

Source: Leclerc deal is $14.75 mm guaranteed for 4 years; 2 club options could carry it to $27 million, buying out 2 years of FA. Think would make this biggest deal for a reliever with between 2-3 years of service time.
