MLB Rumors: Shohei Ohtani will sign with the Toronto Blue Jays, according to J.P. Hoornstra of Dodgers Nation. Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet Canada says, on the other hand, that the Blue Jays are a finalist, but no decision has been made.
Ohtani, generally considered the most coveted free agent in MLB history, hit the free agent market after a season where he was the unanimous Most Valuable Player, led the majors in OBP, slugging and bWAR, and put up a 3.14 ERA in 132 innings. He also basically didn’t play the final month of the season due to a combination of injuries and his team, the Anaheim Angels, being out of the playoff race by September 1.
