MLB's newest managers have ties to Rangers

ARLINGTON -- Former Rangers keep getting hired for the managerial positions that opened this offseason in Major League Baseball.

So far, four new hires have been candidates who played for the Rangers, even if only for a short period of time. Gabe Kapler, who the Phillies tapped as their manager, had the most time with the Rangers, as an outfielder in 2000-02. Mickey Callaway (Mets) pitched in 10 games for the Rangers in 2003-04, Dave Martinez (Nationals) played in 38 games for Texas in 1999 and Alex Cora (Red Sox) played in four games at the end of the 2010 season.
