The Texas Rangers released Jeremy Guthrie, a move that clears the way for right-hander A.J. Griffin to be the fifth starter, reports T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com.
Griffin is scheduled to make his fourth Cactus League start on Tuesday, which indicates he is at the top of a group that includes Nick Martinez, Phil Klein and Cesar Ramos. Griffin has a 4.40 ERA in five spring outings.
But even if Griffin earns the fifth spot, he may not be on the Opening Day roster, reports Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
