MLB, MLBPA agree to seven inning doubleheaders, per report

MLB and the MLBPA have agreed that, beginning August 1, doubleheaders being played in the 2020 season will involve seven inning games for both ends of the doubleheader, per Jeff Passan on Twitter.

With the Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins each having seven games postponed this week because of COVID-19 issues, additional games likely to end up being postponed at some point in the future for COVID-19 issues, and the reality that rainouts will inevitably occur, the league and the union agreed on this as a way to maximize the number of official games that can be played before season’s end.
