The San Diego Padres announced today that they have signed pitcher Mike Clevinger to a two year contract extension, buying out his final two arbitration seasons, and that Clevinger will be undergoing Tommy John surgery tomorrow.
Clevinger will miss all of 2021, which would help explain why the Padres and Clevinger agreed to a two year deal, which eliminates some financial uncertainty and allows the Padres to know what they are investing in Clevinger, knowing that they will only get one healthy year from him.
