McCullers, Astros agree to extension

MLB Rumors: Lance McCullers, Jr., and the Houston Astros have agreed to terms on a five year, $85 million contract extension, per multiple reports. The deal covers from 2022 to 2026.

McCullers, 27, was a first round pick of the Astros in 2012, and was slated to become a free agent after this season prior to this deal getting done. McCullers is a difficult guy to project — he has never started more than 22 games in a season in the majors, and missed 2019 due to Tommy John surgery. He has a career 6.7 bWAR, with a single season high of 2.
