Life and baseball have piled up on Shawn Tolleson. Looking back is what is driving his comeback effort forward.

FRISCO -- Of the Rangers' reclamation projects this season, Shawn Tolleson might be the least likely. Hasn't pitched in a big league game in 18 months, and he hadn't been very good even before a bad back forced his exit. He'd lost the feel for the changeup that had made him one of the game's best closers the year before. So the Rangers gave up on him after 2016, just as the Dodgers did after back problems wiped out 2013.

And then, attempting a comeback last year with Tampa Bay, Tolleson blew out his elbow, meaning Tommy John surgery and another lost year.
