Jonathan Hernandez undergoes Tommy John surgery

Jonathan Hernandez had Tommy John surgery, the Texas Rangers announced today. The righthanded relief pitcher was shut down a month ago due to elbow soreness, and the hope was that rest and rehab would suffice. Apparently there is still pain, however, and he he elected to have surgery today as a result.

Hernandez and Jose Leclerc were hoped to be a dynamic one-two combination at the back of the bullpen for the Rangers this year. Now both will be out until sometime after the start of the 2022 season due to TJS.

The Rangers also announced that Matt Bush will be out at least 12 weeks due to a flexor tendon strain on his right elbow.
