Joey Gallo may be taking off, but the early-season struggles for Rangers' other core players have been real

HOUSTON - Friday dawned with Joey Gallo, one of the Rangers' expected core players, leading the American League in OPS. He was fifth among position players in WAR, no matter which formula subscribed to.

He's been very good at the baseball.

It's exactly what the Rangers need.

If there is a mission to this season for the Rangers, it should be about the young veterans - Gallo is in his fourth season - once, and for all, establishing themselves as franchise-caliber players. If you are rebuilding, well, you better have some players to build around for the long-term.
