James Paxton returns to M’s, per reports

James Paxton and the Seattle Mariners have agreed to terms on a one year deal, per reports. The deal is said to be for one year at $8.5 million, with makeable incentives worth another $1.5 million. The left hander will be joining what is expected to be a six man Mariner rotation.

Paxton, 32, was a first round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2009, didn’t sign, and then was a fourth round pick of the Mariners in 2010. Paxton has terrific stuff and has generally had success (at least prior to 2020) when he has been on the mound, but he has struggled to stay healthy, having never qualified for an ERA title in his career.
