Herget down, Benjamin up, King out for rehab

After Friday’s extra inning game and Saturday’s blowout and early departure for starter Drew Anderson, Texas has apparently decided they need an extra arm in the pen, and thus have recalled left handed pitcher Wes Benjamin from AAA. To make room for Benjamin, the Rangers have optioned pitcher Jimmy Herget to AAA Round Rock.

Benjamin’s stint in the major league pen would seem likely to be short. The Rangers announced lefty pitcher John King is starting a rehab assignment, and will pitch multiple innings for Round Rock on Tuesday. It sounds like the hope is that King will need just the one appearance before being activated, in which case King would likely return Thursday, and Benjamin would go back to Round Rock then.
