Brandon Nimmo needed some assurances from the Texas Rangers before he would agree to waive his full no-trade clause and come to Arlington in a swap for Marcus Semien.
Nimmo, 32, has played his entire career with the New York Mets and wasn't looking to be part of a rebuilding project. He turned to his former former teammate and Rangers' ace Jacob deGrom to get some advice that eventually convinced the the outfielder to make the move.
Nimmo consulted with deGrom before waiving his no trade clause
Nimmo spent four seasons as deGrom's teammate in Queens and the two are still good friends.
