Hank Aaron, legendary Hall of Famer and long time Atlanta Brave, has died today, it was announced. He was 86.
Aaron, who played from 1954-1974 with the Braves (first in Milwaukee, then in Atlanta), and who finished up his career with the Milwaukee Brewers from 1975-76, was long known for being the Home Run King, totaling 755 home runs — a record, until it was broken earlier in the 21st century by Barry Bonds.
The home run record, however, sometimes seemed to result in people overlooking what a terrific all-around ballplayer Aaron was. He was a 25 time All Star, won the National League MVP Award in 1957, finished in the top 3 six other times, appeared on the ballot a total of 19 times — every year from 1955 through 1973 — and won three Gold Gloves.
