Boston Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez will not pitch this season due to myocarditis, a heart inflammation issue which in his case stems from a COVID-19 infection earlier this year. The Red Sox reportedly believe he will make a full recovery, but that recovery will not happen before season’s end.
Rodriguez tested positive for COVID-19 in the pre-testing in advance of summer camp. He was originally cleared to return on July 18, but the heart issues then sidelined him again.
Boston was already dealing with a thin rotation, having dealt David Price this offseason (though Price has since opted out of the season) and losing Chris Sale to Tommy John surgery.
