Catchers are rarely labeled "generational". Typically they are put on the field for either their bat or glove and only two have been picked first overall since 2002 and MLB's most recent one may be on the move this upcoming offseason.
Those two picks are not displaying strong numbers so far in 2025 and may find new homes in 2026. One of those is Adley Rutschman and there is certainly a lot of fog in his future and the Texas Rangers are considered to be in the mix for his services.
The Baltimore Orioles have found themselves in a conundrum with having too much talent behind the dish and a recent extension to 21-year-old Samuel Basallo may have signaled the end for Rutschman in Baltimore.
