Dyson, Rangers agree to deal, avoid arbitration

Teams and players will exchange arbitration numbers today and hearings will be held in February if agreements aren't reached. The Rangers haven't had an arbitration hearing with a player since Lee Stevens in 2000.

Some clubs won't negotiate once numbers are exchanged. The Rangers do not go by that "file and trial" strategy, instead opting to negotiate right up until a hearing is scheduled.

Dyson was in his first year of arbitration eligibility after making $525,270 in 2016. He is coming off an outstanding season, finishing with 38 saves, a 2.43 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP in 73 games.
