CHICAGO -- The Rangers were without reliever Jake Diekman and outfielder Shin-Soo Choo for the first game of their three-game series with the Cubs on Friday.
Diekman was placed on the disabled list with a lacerated left index finger, retroactive to July 6. He is eligible to come off next Friday when Texas begins a three-game series with the Royals.
Diekman cut the finger on a souvenir "Cheers" glass he bought when the Rangers were in Boston. He was unavailable during the club's four-game home series against the Twins, although Texas did not reveal the injury until Friday.
