Development at center of new Rangers pitching coach’s career resume

The final major addition to the Texas Rangers’ coaching staff was made Friday when the club hired Julio Rangel as pitching coach.

A native of Panama, Rangel spent last season as the minor-league pitch coordinator for the San Francisco Giants and before that spent 11 seasons in the Cleveland Indians’ organization.

Rangel replaces Doug Brocail, who was not retained from the 2018 staff. The Rangers hired Luis Ortiz as hitting coach earlier in the week and announced that Don Wakamatsu would return as bench coach.

There are still two more positions for fill on manager Chris Woodward’s staff, bullpen coach and assistant hitting coach.
