The Colorado Rockies have fired manager Bud Black, it was announced today. Bench coach Mike Redmond was also fired, and third base coach Walter Schaeffer is taking over as acting manager.
Before yesterday’s game against the San Diego Padres, Rockie g.m. Bill Schmidt said that he didn’t think that they were at the point of making a managerial change, despite the Rockies being a historically bad 6-32 at the time. The Rockies then lost to the Padres last night, 21-0, before beating San Diego today by a 9-3 score, and Black was let go afterwards.
Black has been the manager for the Rockies since 2017.
