Tom Herman downplays Longhorns' talent, says he's 'surprised that there's not enough depth'

Texas head coach Tom Herman was optimistic following the Longhorns' spring game last Saturday. He said the team's goal this spring was to "learn how to practice," and he thinks his players are making strides.

"When you walk in those doors, it is fourth-and-inches," Herman said on April 15. "When you leave, whatever it is, whether it's a workout or a meeting or a practice, you should be mentally, physically and emotionally exhausted. If you're not, you're doing it wrong. You're doing it wrong. You're football-ing wrong. So I think our guys understand that."

Still, Herman said there's a long way to go before the burnt orange are ready to take on Maryland to start the upcoming season.
