Texas pledge Asjia O'Neal, the daughter of a former NBA All-Star and one of state's best volleyball players, won't be playing for Southlake Carroll as senior

All-state middle blocker Asjia O'Neal has decided not to play high school volleyball as a senior, Southlake Carroll coach Ryan Mitchell said.

O'Neal has committed to Texas, the NCAA national runner-up the last two seasons. O'Neal, the daughter of former NBA All-Star Jermaine O'Neal, was the District 5-6A MVP and SportsDay's All-Area Blocker of the Year last season.

"She just decided she's not playing high school volleyball," Mitchell said. "She has decided to take the season off. ... She's going to do some great things at Texas. We wish her the best of luck."

O'Neal had 509 kills and 121 blocks to lead Southlake Carroll to the Class 6A Region I final, where it lost to eventual state champion Hebron to finish 43-7.
