With the No. 379 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, the Los Angeles Angels chose Plano Prestonwood Christian left-handed pitcher Xavier Mitchell.
The 6’3, 165-pounder was ranked as the No. 168 overall prospect by MLB.com after signing with the Texas Longhorns. The drop in the draft could be a positive sign for head coach Jim Schlossnagle unless the Angels decide to make an offer to Mitchell more in line with his pre-draft ranking than his 13th-round selection.
Here’s the scouting report on Mitchell from MLB.com:
Mitchell’s fastball sits at 90-92 mph and tops out at 94, playing better than its velocity because he hides it well and it carries past barrels at the top of the strike zone.
