A former starting quarterback with the Texas football program, redshirt SMU Mustangs junior Shane Buechele, had himself a nice 2019 season after leaving the Forty Acres. Head coach Sonny Dykes coached up one of the Group of Five’s best and most explosive offenses this year, spearheaded by the former Texas Longhorns four-star quarterback recruit Buechele.
But Buechele didn’t have his best game in SMU’s bowl berth against head coach Lane Kiffin and the Florida Atlantic Owls.
On Dec. 21, SMU took on Florida Atlantic in the Boca Raton Bowl. This was essentially a home game for the Owls, and it showed as the Mustangs came out of the gates flat on both sides of the ball.
