The departure of former Texas football junior quarterback Shane Buechele is something that a lot of people saw coming, but also something that will hurt the depth at the position. Ever since Texas football saw a big breakthrough of sophomore quarterback Sam Ehlinger from this past season, the previous opportunity to potentially snag the starting role disappeared for any others.
What quarterbacks like Buechele and the pair of freshmen Casey Thompson and Cameron Rising had to be hoping for this past season was a falter of Ehlinger. That would’ve opened the door to someone else being able to win the starting job for the long-term.
