It was a rough last month or so on the recruiting trail and with player retention for the Texas football program. The NCAA Transfer Portal ravaged the depth already for Texas ahead of the Early Signing Period for the 2019 recruiting cycle and the 2020 offseason. One player that put his name into the transfer portal earlier this fall that could be a detriment to the long-term depth and outlook for the offensive line is true freshman Texas native offensive tackle Javonne Shepherd.
Texas signed Shepherd as one of the last remaining pieces of the 2019 recruiting class.
