Texas confirms that Corby Meekins will coach WRs

The shuffling of the Texas Longhorns coaching staff caused by the hire of co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Herb Hand was officially completed on Thursday when the school revealed that former tight ends coach Corby Meekins will coach wide receivers with Drew Mehringer.

Meekins will also help coach special teams with safeties coach Craig Naivar. Texas finished No. 48 in FEI’s special teams rankings last year and struggled covering kickoffs — opponents averaged 25.1 yards per return, which ranked No. 121.

The hope for head coach Tom Herman is that Meekins will have a positive impact on the wide receivers, a group that largely underachieved last season under Mehringer.
