On a night in which Todd Orlando’s defense looked dominant, multiple freshmen were a big reason why. Orlando turned up the pressure to get freshman quarterback Brock Purdy out of his comfort zone. Purdy completed just 10-of-23 passes for 130 yards. The relentless pressure all night long resulted in six sacks for the defense with three of those coming from the freshmen — Caden Sterns, B.J. Foster, and Joseph Ossai. Ossai’s strip sack sealed an impressive 24-10 win over Iowa State.
The two starting freshman safeties had themselves a game on Saturday night.
