According to a report from Baseball America’s Carlos Collazo, Plano Prestonwood Christian left-handed pitcher Xavier Mitchell signed with the Los Angeles Angels on Friday for $872,500, a contract for the No. 379 overall pick that surpassed the slot value of the No. 90 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.
The Angels were able to offer Mitchell $722,500 out of the organization’s bonus pool for the draft because first-round selection Tyler Bremner, a right-hander from UC Santa Barbara who was selected No. 2 overall, signed for $2.6 million under slot.
Mitchell’s decision was foreshadowed by the draft-day call from general manager Perry Minisian, a Metroplex product who went to Arlington Lamar and UT-Arlington, who told the 6’3, 165-pounder, “We really want you and we’re gonna give you everything we’ve got,” according to the Dallas Morning-News.
