Report: Texas assistant Mike Morrell to take UNC-Asheville head coaching job

For the second straight year, Texas Longhorns head coach Shaka Smart is replacing one of his assistant coaches, but this time it’s because Mike Morrell is reportedly leaving to become the head coach of the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

The university is expected to make an official announcement about Morrell’s hire on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old assistant first met Smart while working as a graduate assistant for Oliver Purnell at Clemson, then joined Smart’s staff at VCU after a year as an assistant at Charleston Southern before following him to Texas.
