Coach Tom Herman said he didn't seriously consider going for a possible winning 2-point conversion against Southern California after Texas scored in the first overtime.
The reason: The Longhorns had already used that designated 2-point play on the touchdown, a throwback from quarterback Sam Ehlinger to freshman tight end Cade Brewer.
"Not close," Herman said of the 2-point possibility, "because the play that we scored on, the little tight-end delay, was actually our 2-point play so we would have to devise a play on the spot there. Maybe had we had our timeout, I probably would have called it and talked about it.
