AUSTIN, Texas - University of Texas sophomore shot putter Tripp Piperi was named Big 12 Conference Co-Men's Athlete of the Week on Wednesday afternoon after winning the shot put over the weekend at the Charlie Thomas Invitational in College Station, Texas. Piperi's winning throw was a personal best at 20.57m/67-6.
Piperi became the No. 2 indoor shot putter in school history behind only 2016 Rio Olympic Gold Medalist Ryan Crouser. His mark puts him at No. 1 in the Big 12, No. 3 in the NCAA and No. 4 in the US so far this season.
