AUSTIN, Texas— Freshman guard Sophie Cunningham posted a team-high 20 points and five assists to push No. 10 seed Missouri over No. 7 seed Brigham Young, 78-69, in the First Round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament inside the Frank Erwin Center on Saturday evening.
With the win, Mizzou (22-9) advances in their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 10 years. The Tigers lead the all-time series against the Cougars, 6-0.
Junior forward Jordan Frericks totaled 19 points for the game and brought down a team-high nine boards. Freshman guard Morgan Stock and senior guard Juanita Robinson closed out the double-digit scorers for the Tigers with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
