The expected hire of former Texas A&M Aggies offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone as a quality control coach for the Texas Longhorns reportedly fell through this weekend after Kevin Sumlin took to head coaching job for the Arizona Wildcats.
According to Bruce Feldman, who hit the brakes on the Mazzone-to-Texas story on Friday, Sumlin will bring Mazzone with him to Tucson and continue the coaching relationship that began in early 2016 when Mazzone left the UCLA Bruins.
Even though the attempted hire didn’t work out for Texas head coach Tom Herman, the pursuit of Mazzone indicated that Herman is looking for ways to improve the offensive coaching staff.
