IRVING, Texas – Texas junior linebacker Gary Johnson was named the Big 12 Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday following his standout performance in Saturday's win at No. 24/25 West Virginia. Johnson had seven tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry as the Longhorns improved to 5-3 in league play. It is the first weekly award for Johnson in his career.

A native of Douglas, Ala., Johnson and the Longhorns' defense shined in their road victory, holding a potent Mountaineer offense to just seven points in the game. He was tied for the team lead with seven tackles, while also causing a crucial incompletion on a quarterback pressure.
