How QBs like Greg Ward, Johnny Manziel can get Texas, A&M back among college football's elite

If you've heard this story before, play along for a minute. I ask so little, it's the least you could do.

Way back in 1981, Rice had a quarterback named Michael Calhoun, and the Owls' offensive coordinator, Tom Rossley, turned him loose to do as he saw fit on any given play. Great idea, too, because the Owls didn't block much. Between gasps, Calhoun threw 21 touchdown passes, back when 21 touchdown passes was a big number, and came within a yard of finishing as the Owls' second-leading rusher. More important, Rice won four games, also a big number, at least if you were an Owl.
