How NCAA avoided an audit of its history by settling with wife of former Longhorn who suffered from CTE

The first football-and-CTE case to get to trial folded in Judge Ken Molberg’s court Friday before any real damage was done to the NCAA. Any public relations damage, that is. The defendants settled with the plaintiff, Deb Ploetz, over lunch, with her supporters calling it a victory for Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy victims.

Probably that’s so, and maybe it was for the best. No one was talking after it was over. But from the little testimony I witnessed, it would have been interesting to watch the NCAA’s history on trial over the next couple of weeks.

Of course, it might not have been so much fun for Deb.
